How to watch iPlayer, NowTV, etc. using a UK 4G SIM, an Ubiquiti UniFi DreamMachine and Ubiquiti UniFi LTE

If you have an unlimited 4g SIM from a UK network provider, you'll be able to watch NowTV, iPlayer, etc. directly from your mobile data. This is because you're tunneled back to the UK, and your traffic comes out of a UK IP address.

If you have an Ubiquiti UniFi DreamMachine or DreamMachine Pro and a UniFi LTE device for 4G backup, you can create a traffic rule to use the UniFi LTE device for the iPlayer traffic, so it seamlessly works over your normal WiFi without the need for a VPN.

To do this, put your 4G SIM into the UniFi LTE and login to your UniFi control panel at https://unifi.ui.com/.

Next, navigate to the Network App > Settings > Traffic Management and select Create New Route...

You can test that the 4G is working by going setting the following settings...

Now you can go to speedtest.net in a new browser tab, and check that it shows your provider as your UK mobile network. This worked for me almost instantly after adding the Traffic Management rule on the DreamMachine. If that works, you can edit the rule to add the servers for the providers you want to route that the UK mobile network...

Once this is applied, you should be able to view iPlayer on your home WiFi on connected TVs, etc.
